Tailgate word perfectly for my needs, I live in northwestern New Mexico and use it spring to fall for 5 th wheel convenience during hookup and dropping trailer. The light weight and v shape eliminates much of the fear of baking normal tailgate into trailer. I don’t have to drop tailgate to hook up. Was difficult to sand rubber inserts to fit on initial install but I got it done, also doesn’t provide theft deterrent from bed as the v opens enough for hand to reach latch on by backflip tonneau cover however I knew that would be the case before I purchased. I am totally satisfied with my tailgate.
Worked great! A few times it was difficult to get latched. It would latch after four attempts or less. I checked to make sure it was properly aligned. It was. I would suggest this product to others. Have sold the truck now! Upgraded to a newer one. Thanks
Great product. Only problem I encountered was installing bottom screw on the end covers.

I received this tailgate quicker than I expected I installed it same day with easy then i went a step further and installed a camera into the tailgate it looks and working awesome looks professionally installed i can back to trailer hitches and also my fifth wheel loading easier don’t have to get out of the vehicle to drop tailgate it’s Awesome thanks for a great product and my fuel mileage has increased also

I wouldn't suggest anyone buys this. I have it on the truck and with in 25 hours the latch/lock broke. The cables to hold tailgate level aren't even close to the right size they keep falling off when you are able to open it or they get in the way when closing it has a 100lbs weight capacity so standing on it when lowered is not suggested looks ok. As soon as I can I'll build my own out of steel and not plastic
Quick installation. All components fit perfectly, making fit-up easy. Really happy with the overall look and functionality.
Shipping was quick.
Trimming involved in putting caps and lower screws on. Alignment is not the greatest.
Although it will serve it's purpose, you get what you pay for.
Very very simple to install. Did it myself start to finish including removal of old lift gate,15 minutes.
Delivery was quick even though there was a weather delay. The Stromberg-Carlson tailgate was as described and looks great. The instructions say not to set on the tailgate because the cables won't support the weight. Even though I used the cables from the Chevy tailgate, I won't be setting on it because the gate itself appears a tad bit flimsy.
very nice product, install took less than half an hour. I wish that the latch would return to standard position and you didn't have to manually latch the gate each time you close it. It's a great replacement product for my OEM and will make the set up and take down of our 5th wheel less time consuming. Which will allow for more time enjoying our trip.

Great Product, continues to work as it should, their is no signs of wear.
A very simple phone call with Bill E. with delivery in 4 days. The product-louvered tailgate was exactly what I expected in function, light weight, black, quality, looks.
A good buy for the $ amount.

It was great for my 2014. However, it wont fit the 2015. Would be nice if their was a way to make it fix. So now it just sits in the garage in the box

I needed a new tailgate after denting my original one. I checked out etrailer for a 5th wheel tailgate. I came across the Stromberg 4000 and liked how it looked. The main reason I chose it was because of the low cost and good reviews. One of the reviews sold me on it was from someone who said they put their backup camera in the new tailgate. I didn't want to give up my backup camera. So I said to myself, if they can do it I can do it. I ordered the tailgate and it was delivered in a timely manner. The installation was easy and fast. The instructions weren't the best, but there's some great video's on etrailer's website that helped out a lot. As far as the better fuel mileage goes, I don't know yet as I've only had it on my truck for a couple of weeks. I would recommend this tailgate. It's already been much more convenient when I hooked up my 5th wheel.
was disappointed that gate could not be painted, had purchased $75.
00 worth of automotive paint and clear before gate arrived, and now cannot return it or use it.... should have mentioned that in the ad for the gate !!!! also the passenger side does not fit tight, have tried to loosen and adjust but won't work, guess I will have to put a bungi on it to pull it tight, and that is ashamed, for the amount of money paid to purchase.. I will say install was easy other than the problems trying to get it from rattling. Just have to live with it now. I dare you to post this review.

According to Stromberg Carlson, the tailgate itself should not be painted but if the optional # 4000-V louver kit is purchased, the louvers can be painted. From what my Stromberg rep tells me, the tailgate striker pins on the truck can be adjusted to improve the tailgates fit.

Having the new tailgate makes backing up and locking to the hitch extremely convenient. When camping, we have had quite a few folks comment about the tailgate...
Received the tailgate within 3 business days, all in good condition. Installed within 20 minutes. I did view the installation video on You Tube before I purchased which was very helpful. The printed installation instructions were not all that clear, and without the video may have been quite frustrating.
With the knowledge from the video, installation was a breeze. The product works well, but could use one small improvement. The latch handle does not "spring return" so you have to remember to turn it back after unlatching or the tailgate does not latch again. Over all though, great product.
ordering was super easy; shipping was exactly as expected; product was well packaged; super easy to install; downside for me...my horse trailer gooseneck will not clear cut out when hitching and unhitching. realize I should have checked measurements more carefully before ordering but...no returns once installed so it really doesn't serve my purpose. otherwise really great product and I loved how easy it was to install.
not the best gate ive had, doesn't latch tight on one side,if you try to adjust then the other side wont latch. middle section is to high. I does not follow the lines of the truck and just doesn't look very good, not near as good as the older steel lovered gats and is to much money for what it is. would not buy again
Very disappointed. Box showed up torn apart, painted metal pieces scratched. Install instructions very difficult. Then the rubber adapter for gate pivot fits on truck but is way to large for the new gate. How can that be it’s your product??? Very surprised by such a crap piece of equipment that was rated 4-5 stars.

We’ve had this tailgate for a year now and still love it! It makes hooking and unhooking our fiver SO much easier. We like the lock feature on the tailgate as well.
Well worth the money and is holding up beautifully! No wear or tear or fading either.

The tailgate is still functioning as designed. After a year, l think I would have rather had a metal tailgate...just more substantial. This one keeps stuff in, though.
